Having already done an article on The Wombats (scroll down if you haven't seen and then head to the next page) I thought id lay down a new article about their current leading single. Anti D. Anti D is unlike any other Wombats song I have heard. Feauturing heavy focuses on strings and an orchestrial feel you could be forgiven for thinking this was another band.
But then his good old voice kicks in. The song remains a steady tempo throughout and talks about the downsides and "Dreams" of Anti D's. He talks to the listener in a way. Stating quietly please allow me to be your Anti Depressent. Of course for a song like this you would think it would be upbeat and lively but for this The Wombats have again challanged the conventions. They have made the song downbeat and slow. The tempo only picks up once in one of the most amazing peices of music I have ever heard.
The piece I am talking about starts at 2.45 seconds and hits an upbeat moment where Matt Murray sings
"Still I've thrown away my citalopram
I needed more than what was in those 40 milligrams
So cast away with the doctor's plans"
Speaking of his own depressent addiction he says of how it left him numb and insecure about himself. This can be seen through the lyrics and meanings of the song. He says he he needed more then what was in those 40 milligrams again highlighting his addiction to the pills and how he needed them on a daily basis and he didnt listen to what the doctor reccomended.
It takes a real person to talk about addiction and their downfalls. It took a man like Matt Murray to turn it into a song. And what a song at that! From the violins to the catchy little ending and 2.45 piece of excellence. I would definetly say you go and listen if you haven't already.
As for me, well Ill go back to listening to this album. LEGALLY BOUGHT for once.
